Today I learned of an owlet sitting on the ground from one of my fiancée’s friends on facebook. With a very rough location given I set out in the hope of finding it to try and photograph it. After walking what seemed like miles up and down a hill I finally found it under a tree. It wasn’t moving much thankfully as the light was fading, I mainly used my 70-200mm but managed a few shots with my 50mm f1.8, while also making sure not to disturb the youngster. After researching on the internet my partner and I decided it is a tawny owlet, apparently it is common for them to mistakenly be “rescued” because they are often seen on the ground in a period called branching. The owlet remains on the ground until dark normally, so I think this was the case here. All in all it’s made my day.
